about

Dr. Fruitworld emerged on Sydney's northern beaches in the early '90s from the ashes of defunct punk/blues outfit "Black & Blue": a band that included Andrew Warren on drums (ex-Progression Cult), Ken Archbold on bass (ex-Itchy Rat), Mark "Bird" Nowane on vocals (Ex-WWXIV) and on guitar, Alan Creed (ex-Government Downfall, Execution Masks, Aberration, Inchmen).

Creed, Archbold & Warren reconvened around '90-'91 initially jamming under the moniker, "The Cynics". When the three met up with Phill Van Rooyen, who subsequently joined on second guitar, the name was updated to "Dr. Fruitworld" and they commenced playing shows on the northern beaches and in the city,

This early recording was put down live at Troy Horse studios and includes songs that would later appear on the Noise Fix EP (and one on the Pain EP) as well as leftover material from the Black & Blue days and some of Creed's material from his earlier band, "The Inchmen". Also, there are songs penned by Ken Archbold that were dropped from the repertoire when he moved on to play bass with the Hellmenn.

Later, Justin "Charlie" O'Neill (latterly guitarist with stoner rockers, Daredevil) joined on bass with the departure of Archbold and it's this lineup that recorded "Noise Fix".

Due to health problems, Andrew Warren was physically unable to continue playing the drums; he was replaced by Simon Lazareff (ex- hardcore punk outfit U.T.I.) who played drums on the Pain CD. Lazareff eventually departed and the huge of stature and heart, Simon 'Oxx' Cooper (ex- Fester Fanatics, Massive Appendage, Lazarus) joined the band. Oxx, who was also renowned for his graphical art in mags like Hot Metal, sadly passed away some time after the group disbanded.

The band would in time fold after only the two releases, having played many shows across the country with a string of great bands & friends including Front End Loader, Tumbleweed, Asteroid B612, Hoodoo Gurus, Red Kross, Brother Brick, You Am I, Frenzal Rhomb, Fireballs, Nitocris - and the vast list could go on.

After the demise of Dr. Fruitworld and his leaving Hellmenn, Archbold teamed up with Ashley Thomson (Kelpies, Wigworld), Peter Thompson (Splatterheads), John Nolan (Porcelain Bus) and Brad McKnight (WWXXIV) to form "The Panadolls". Later, Van Rooyen would join them on guitar and eventually Creed joined after a stint with Bill Gibson (too many bands to mention) and Peter Kelly (New Christs, Vanilla Chainsaws) in power-pop trio, "Hey Charger", when that group also fell by the wayside with Gibson leaving Australia to pursue a slot with "The Lemonheads".

So, the eventual lineup of The Panadolls actually resembled the Dr. Fruitworld lineup recorded here, bar AshleyThomson on drums and not Warren.

Sadly, Andrew Warren also passed away in 2019. He will always be remembered as a truly nice guy and an unfettered wild-man drummer.

This release provides a snapshot in time of the transitional Dr. Fruitworld. It is in relatively poor though listenable quality due to it being rescued from a near 30-year-old cassette copy.
